Plastic is fuelling climate change and its emissions account for a significant portion of the planet’s entire remaining carbon budget. If plastic were a country, it would be the world’s fifth largest greenhouse gas emitter after China, USA, India and Russia. How? Plastic production is a major driver of the global demand for oil and gas. Throughout the life cycle of plastic, vast quantities of climate-damaging carbon dioxide and methane are released.
